Premier League preview: Ryan and Mooy to star in Brighton's fresh start

A deadline day swoop from the Seagulls means there is an Australian flavour at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Graham Potter's side secured the services of Aaron Mooy on a one-year loan from Huddersfield Town, meaning he'll unite with Caltex Socceroos teammate and Albion fan favourite Mathew Ryan for the new Premier League 2019/20 season.

Together, the goalkeeper and midfielder should be key players for new boss Potter as the East Sussex-based club look to cement their position in England's top tier once again.

Title contenders

Defending champions Manchester City are favourites to clinch their third consecutive Premier League title, having pipped Liverpool to the trophy on the final day of last season.

The clubs from Manchester and Merseyside were a cut above the rest last season, although Tottenham Hotspur could be the likeliest candidate to prevent another two-horse title race from unfolding.

However, the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United must find radical improvement in order to challenge for top honours.

Star players

Liverpool's world-class front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have the ammunition to gun down any defence in the world, and, speaking of firepower  there aren't many better forwards in the world than Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur, or Sergio Aguero of Manchester City.

Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne are two other big stars for Pep Guardiola's side, while new Arsenal signing Nicolas Pepe has the potential to set pulses around the world racing.

Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool and Harry Maguire - who this week signed a $144 million deal to join Manchester United - are some of the best defenders the league has to offer.

The Aussies

Both Ryan and Mooy have been mainstays for Brighton and Huddersfield respectively over the course of their two seasons in the Premier League so far.

Goalkeeper Ryan is a firm fan favourite with the Seagulls, and has turned out 74 times for the Seagulls after penning his signature from La Liga club Valencia in June 2017.

Mooy, on the other hand, was a talismanic figure for the Terriers, and Brighton's midfield should be in safe hands with the Australian pulling the strings.

Newcomers

Norwich City were promoted into the Premier League after winning the 2018/19 EFL Championship, while Sheffield United are back in the big time after finishing runners-up.
