Ange Postecoglou has been appointed as the new coach of Melbourne Victory Football Club.
Melbourne Victory have announced the appointment of former Brisbane Roar and South Melbourne coach Ange Postecoglou.
Postecoglou, 46, resigned from his role as Brisbane head coach on Tuesday, two days after guiding the club to their second successive A-League title.
Greek-born Postecoglou had been widely tipped to return to home town Melbourne on a permanent basis after spending the past three years juggling his time between Queensland and Victoria, where his family remain.
The post of Melbourne Victory coach has been vacant following the departure of caretaker Jim Magilton.
Northern Irishman Magilton filled the role between January 7 and April 2, after replacing the sacked Mehmet Durakovic.
Durakovic himself lasted just eight months after taking over from inaugural manager Ernie Merrick in June 2011.
Victory, widely regarded as the biggest club in the competition, won two A-League titles under Merrick, and lost the 2010 grand final to Sydney FC.
But despite the high-profile signing of Socceroo star Harry Kewell in August 2011, they struggled badly in the 2011/12 campaign, finishing a disappointing eighth in the standings.
Postecoglou will be charged with restoring the club to its former glory, and in the accomplished style Brisbane have been noted for during the past two campaigns.
The Roar came from to defeat 10-man Perth Glory 2-1 on Sunday, bagging their second consecutive title after also beating Central Coast Mariners in a penalty shootout last year.
A former Australia international defender, Postecoglou won National Soccer League titles as a player and coach with South Melbourne, and spent seven years in charge of Australia's Under-20 side.
Postecoglou began his tenure in charge of Brisbane in October 2009, when he replaced Frank Farina.
