Paper Talk: ‘We’re all good’: Goodwin moves on from Mauk missile

He was on the end of a clattering challenge but in-form Adelaide United attacker Craig Goodwin insists there is no bad blood between himself and Brisbane Roar playmaker Stefan Mauk.

Goodwin felt the full force of a lunging Mauk tackle in the Reds’ 2-1 win on Friday night, with the Roar substitute shown a red card for the tackle.

Mauk, a former teammate of Goodwin when Adelaide won the double in 2015/16, was knocked out in the challenge and had to be assisted from the field by Roar medical staff.

While Goodwin was lucky not to have been hurt himself in the incident, he says there are no hard feelings towards Mauk.

“I went and saw him straight after the game,” Goodwin said on a Fox Sports Podcast.

“The tackle happened and I was on the ground and didn’t know he’d been knocked out and when I got up all I saw was him stuttering and trying to stay on his feet.

“After the game spoke to him and obviously I’m friends with Stef and we were both in Holland together. All good, all good.”

Reinforcements coming for the Wanderers

They are coming off the back of their heaviest defeat of the season but there is some good news for the Wanderers ahead of their crucial Friday night clash against the Central Coast Mariners.

German defender Patrick Ziegler is on track to make his long-awaited Hyundai A-League debut for the club to boost a defence which has conceded eight goals in their last three games.

The club confirmed on Wednesday that Ziegler has been back in full training with the first team and has been responding well to training loads.

Attacker Roly Bonevacia also seems set to return after showing no problems since his return to full training following a hamstring injury.

Could Taggart play for Roar against the Jets on Sunday?

When Adam Taggart clutched at his groin on Friday night against Adelaide United, fans would have feared the worst.

How would Brisbane Roar cope without a Taggart who has scored five goals in six Hyundai A-League games this season?

There appears to be hope for Brisbane fans after a recent report from FOX SPORTS suggests Taggart’s injury is not as bad as first feared.

According to the news outlet, Brisbane’s club medical staff have labelled Taggart as ‘touch and go’ to face Newcastle Jets in the Hunter - where it all began for the striker.

Taggart’s inclusion would be a major positive for the Roar, following his promising displays in the past two games against Melbourne City and Adelaide United.
