Referees don’t often draw much praise from fans but that wasn’t the case with whistle-blower Jarred Gillett at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
Gillett was in the middle for the clash between Brisbane Roar and Western Sydney Wanderers in what was his last game officiating in the Hyundai A-League.
Gillett – a five-time Hyundai A-League referee of the year – is heading abroad to pursue academic and refereeing opportunities in England.
But he signed off in spectacular fashion both on and off the pitch on Friday night.
The 32-year-old had a superb game in the middle as the Wanderers came from behind to beat the home side 4-1 and keep their faint finals hopes alive.

And Gillett then showed his class by making one fan's night, signing and the handing over his red and yellow cards from the match.

Gallifuoco’s touching tribute to ‘brother’ Tombides
It was an extra special debut for new Western Sydney Wanderers player Giancarlo Gallifuoco on Friday night.
Not only did the 25-year-old make his first Hyundai A-League appearance in three years, he did it on what would have been the 25th birthday of Dylan Tombides.

Tombides – a former Australian Youth international and striker at West Ham United – passed away in 2014 after a battle with testicular cancer.
