The Perth Glory left back last played for Australia in 2009 but is in again in favour after being named in a provisional squad ahead of next month's East Asian Cup qualifying tournament in Hong Kong.
Jamieson has been rewarded for some fine form at Perth Glory, but he believes a change in attitude has been the major reason for his revival.
"I was young and looking back I did have a chip on my shoulder," Jamieson said.
"I'd argue with people about this and that. I was looking to blame other people.
"As a person you grow out of it and that's what happened with me.
"I've been to the bottom and am trying to make my way back."
Jamieson had run-ins on and off the field early in his career but is now channelling all his energy into football.
The 24-year-old believes the move to Perth has had a calming influence on his once fiery nature.
"I am in a really good place at the moment. Hopefully I can keep improving as a person and a player," he said.
"It's been really good (the move to Perth). I am really happy on and off the field and have grown up I guess and I think that's translated into my football.
"It's been a good learning curve and hopefully I can kick on.
"You look at the results I'm producing on the field now and it (his previous attitude) probably wasn't good enough.
"I am honest enough to say that and I've learnt from that.
"I've lost the chip from my shoulder."
The Socceroos squad will be in camp for three days before coach Holger Osieck trims his A-League-laden line-up for the trip to Hong Kong.
Jamieson is relishing the opportunity to return to the international stage.
"It's been a while. It's a new regime but I think any position is open for any takers," he added.
"We'll see how we go. I like to back myself and I'd like to think I'm a chance (of surviving the cut).
