Oar becomes free agent after being released by APOEL

Tommy Oar has terminated his contract with Cypriot First Division club APOEL.

The 28-cap Caltex Socceroo had been plying his trade in Cyprus since June 2017, following previous stints for FC Utrecht in the Netherlands and Ipswich Town in England.

After starting out at Brisbane Roar, the Queenslander first moved to Europe in 2010 before returning to the Hyundai A-League for a one-season spell in 2016-17.

The 26-year-old is now a free agent and released a statement through Professional Footballers Australia.

In the PFA statement, he said: “I would like to thank the staff and players at APOEL and wish them all the best for the future. I thank the PFA for their support during this period, which has been invaluable.”

PFA Chief Executive John Didulica said:“The PFA’s legal department has provided advice to Tommy over the past two months.

“Tommy has terminated his contract for just cause in accordance with FIFA Regulations and the longstanding jurisprudence of the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Tommy is now a free agent and permitted to sign with a new club.”
