NWSL weekend preview: What's in store for your Westfield Matildas?

Watch out, National Women's Soccer League – Hayley Raso, Ellie Carpenter and Caitlin Foord can make a statement of intent this weekend.

Portland Thorns’ Raso, Carpenter and Foord are out to extend their lead atop the NWSL ladder following a costly slip-up from Sam Kerr's Chicago Red Stars on Thursday morning.

That means the Thorns can open up a four-point gap over the second-place Red Stars if they beat Washington Spirit at Providence Park on Sunday afternoon, 12.30pm AEST kick off.

And with Spirit boasting Westfield Matildas in Chloe Logarzo and Amy Harrison, this is a clash you simply can’t afford to miss.

More than Pride at stake

The equation is simple for Orlando Pride ahead of Sunday morning’s clash with Utah Royals – win, and reignite their faltering bid for the Final series.

Lose, and Marc Skinner’s side can all but wave their top-four hopes goodbye. Pride are currently last on the ladder with nine matches remaining, fifteen points off fourth-placed Reign FC.

Westfield Matilda Alanna Kennedy shrugged off a thigh injury to feature in a 1-0 loss to Houston Dash on Sunday, but Emily van Egmond has been ruled out with a season-ending ankle injury.

Kick-off is 9.30am AEST.

Reign need a response

Meanwhile, Steph Catley and Reign FC are hoping to bounce back from a 3-1 loss to Utah Royals when they travel to Sky Blue on Monday morning, kick off 3.00am AEST.

The Seattle-based club could find themselves out of the top four if Utah beat Orlando on Sunday, and another loss could prove to be a fatal blow in the race for the title.

Lydia Williams remains sidelined for Reign with an ankle injury.
