NPL NSW star called up for international duty

In a huge endorsement for the NPL NSW competition, Hakoah Sydney City East striker Andre De Jong has been called up for international duty with New Zealand.

The attacker has been selected by new All Whites coach Fritz Schmid for Sunday’s friendly clash with Canada in Spain.

De Jong, 21, is the second NPL player to receive an international call-up in just over a week with Blacktown City star Mitch Mallia picked to play for Malta.

The striker is the son of former New Zealand international Fred de Jong, who made 21 appearances for the All Whites.

The Hakoah attacker has previously represented NZ at under-17 and under-20 level, making two substitute appearances at the U-20 World Cup in 2015.
