NNSW Wrap: Two clubs secure spots in Round of 32

Broadmeadow Magic are back again while they’ll be joined by newcomer Charlestown City Blues as representatives from Northern NSW in the FFA Cup Round of 32.

The Blues booked their spot following a dramatic penalty shootout win over Lambton Jaffas at Lisle Carr Oval.

In a tense and hard-fought encounter, neither side was able to find a breakthrough over 120 minutes.

That’s when Blues keeper Danny Ireland came up big, pulling off three stunning saves in the shootout to help his side advance 3-2 on penalties.

Meanwhile, the Magic left it late to secure their spot back in the last 32, overcoming Hamilton Olympic 2-1 at Adamstown Oval.

Former Hyundai A-League player Mitchell Oxborrow gave Magic the lead just before half-time, curling in a superb free-kick from the edge of the box.

But Olympic drew level in first-half stoppage time as Jed Hornery turned in Tom Davies’ cross.

Just when it looked like extra-time would be needed, John Majurovski latched onto a brilliant cross and headed the ball into the back of the net with eight minutes left.

Ruben Zadkovich’s side were able to hold on for a gritty win to qualify for the Round of 32 for the fourth time in the club’s history.

Both the Blues and Magic will go into the draw for the Round of 32 which will take place on June 26 LIVE on FOX SPORTS.
