Newcastle Jets welcome Larissa Crummer for 2018/19 season

The Newcastle Jets can confirm Larissa Crummer will join the club on a one-year deal from the beginning of the Westfield 2018/19 W-League season.

The former Melbourne City striker will travel up the Hume Highway and call the Hunter home for the Jets upcoming campaign – linking up with Matildas teammate, Emily van Egmond.

At just 22 years-of-age, Crummer already boasts 64 Westfield W-League caps during stints with Sydney FC, Brisbane Roar, and Melbourne City.

The Sunshine Coast product was a Golden Boot winner in the 2015/16 season (11 goals), while also taking out the league’s Young Player of the Year.

A junior national representative, Crummer has gone on to make 20 appearances for the Matildas and is recently returned from their Tournament of Nations campaign.

Westfield W-League Head Coach, Craig Deans said he was extremely happy to have Crummer on board and taking position in the centre of defence.

“She has been playing predominantly as a forward so far in her career but we believe Larissa can offer plenty in our backline this season,” Deans said.

“Larissa is only young, but her W-League and international experience with the Matildas will be vital for us.

“Larissa will definitely strengthen our defence and her leadership on and off the field will be important if we want to improve on last season’s results.”

Crummer was looking forward to making the move to Newcastle and joining her teammates.

“I’ve heard really good things about Newcastle from my cousin who lives there, so I’m excited to get up there and have a look around,” Crummer said.

“For me, it’s really encouraging that a W-League team wants me to play in the same position the national team plays me.

“Deansy has said that he will be able to help improve my game in that area and I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with him.”

Currently, in Sydney at a two week camp with the Young Matildas, Crummer will join her new teammates for the first time when pre-season starts in September.
