Newcastle Jets v Wellington Phoenix: match preview

Wellington Phoenix will want to return to winning ways when they take on Newcastle Jets in their final hit-out before the Hyundai A-League Finals Series.

While the Jets’ finals hopes evaporated last week, Phoenix are pushing for a top three finish and will play finals football for a second straight season.

But after failing to win any of their last three games, (2D, 1L), Ufuk Talay will hope his side can pick up three points and regain some confidence ahead of sudden-death football.

The Jets have been big improvers since Carl Robinson took the reins earlier in the year and haven’t tasted defeat in their three games since the competition’s resumption.

That’s included wins over Premiers Sydney FC and in-form Western United, indicating there could be better days ahead for the Hunter club in 2020/21.

The two clubs met just once this season, with goal to Ulises Davila 20 minutes from time handing Phoenix a 2-1 win back in January.
