Newcastle Jets confirm Smith injury blow

Newcastle Jets have confirmed an anterior cruciate ligament injury for American star Taylor Smith following the side's clash with Perth Glory.

The 25-year-old sustained the ligament rupture after an awkward fall late on in Newcastle's 2-2 stalemate in Western Australia.

Smith, who joined the Hunter Valley outfit from National Women's Soccer League club Washington Spirit, has been a sensational addition to Craig Deans' side.

Speaking to Newcastle's official website, Deans remarked that the injury was a huge loss for the club.

"Taylor has been key for us so far this season, and we anticipated she'd play a big role moving towards the finals series," Deans said.

"She's a fantastic person and it's been great having her in the group, which makes this injury all the more upsetting.

"It's devastating for us and for Taylor, and we'll do everything we can to support her in recovering from this injury and getting back to her best."
