Newcastle 'keeper Moss is dominating the box again - Bosnich

Glen Moss was back to his dominant best to inspire Newcastle Jets’ 1-0 triumph over Western United on Saturday, according to legendary Australian goalkeeper Mark Bosnich.

The veteran Kiwi gloveman pulled off three massive second half saves to help the Jets repel a barrage of late pressure from the Hyundai A-League new boys and secure their first win of the campaign.

A stunning reflex stop to tip Besart Berisha’s header over the bar was arguably the pick of the bunch from the 36-year-old.

Bosnich, who plied his trade between the posts in the Premier League for Aston Villa, Manchester United and Chelsea, was particularly impressed by the way Moss commanded his penalty area during United’s second half onslaught.

“I haven’t seen him be as dominant in his box... for quite some time,” Bosnich said on FOX Sports.

“That save from the corner, a wonderful reflex save and they’ve got a lot to thank him for today.

“For me he was man of the match.

Sharing Bosnich’s opinion was Jets boss Ernie Merrick, who hailed Moss’ herculean efforts.

“We protected that goal really well in the second half,” Merrick told FOX Sports after his side’s 1-0 win.

“I think Glen Moss... pulled off some outstanding saves, man of the match for me.”

It was a testament to Moss’ expertise that after a relatively untroubled opening half he was able to muster the concentration to marshal a hard-fought clean sheet.

As the final whistle blew he let out a visibly emphatic roar, as he knew he had just guided his side to a vital three points.

“It was quite nice to get a bit of action in the second half and hold out for the win,” he said.

“We were pretty frustrated after the first few games of the season, we played well bar the Sydney game away and were unlucky not to get something from those first few games.

“Today Ernie said you’re going to have to grind it out, and that’s what I think we had to do in the second half.”

Grind it out is exactly what Newcastle did on a night that saw the club post their first away clean sheet in six matches.
