Football Federation Australia Game Development and Sports minister Kate Lundy have been working together with key stakeholders in the multicultural area to develop a strategy that aligns among all of the bodies across Australia.
Throughout the session the FFA looked to provide direction for member federations and non-government organisations in helping to engage multicultural communities across Australia by identifying the current practices in each of those communities and also identify priority areas within the game in those communities.
The meeting saw a wide range of topics covered and reaffirmed the FFA-s commitment to making sure no community within football is ignored and that there is corporate and government support for football at all levels of the game.
Member federations are keen to implement their own practices and initiatives for these communities.
Football West is providing a low-cost grassroots program for recent arrivals with limited knowledge and resources.
Football United has also been impressive in the way it has approached the issue engaging in effectively addressing areas of social inequity, with current program operations across Western Sydney, Adelaide, Mt Gambier and recently the ACT that improve their access to education, health services and physical activity.
Some of their initiatives include the provision of regular, free, accessible and localised football training and playing opportunities for disadvantaged children and youth and building extensive and collaborative relationships with diverse community-based partners as well as local and state government agencies.
Football Federation Victoria has their own strategy which is focussed on increased participation in club-based activity by new arrival and Horn of Africa communities, while Football Federation South Australia are also providing programs heavily geared towards new arrivals to Australia.
Football Federation Australia will now work with these member federations to create a final strategy and implement it nationally.
