Moss tames Mierzejewski as Jets taste shootout success in China

Glen Moss spoiled Adrian Mierzejewski's debut for Changchun Yatai by denying the ex-Sydney FC star in Newcastle Jets' spot-kick triumph at the Super Champions Cup in China.

Former All Whites gloveman Moss, a half-time replacement for Jack Duncan, proved the hero with three shootout saves after the match ended with scores level at 1-1.

His smartest stop came from Mierzejewski's cheeky attempt at a panenka as the reigning Johnny Warren Medal Winner suffered defeat in his first appearance since departing the Hyundai A-League.

Jason Hoffman, John Koutroumbis and Ben Kantarovski all converted for the Jets.

Matthew Ridenton, who signed from Wellington Phoenix in May, earlier opened his account for his new club by quickly cancelling out Changchun's first-half opener.

Moss' subsequent starring role in the 3-1 shootout victory meant Newcastle walked away as winners of the four-team pre-season tournament, which also featured Sydney FC.
