Mooy’s Huddersfield slump to EPL defeat against Palace

Caltex Socceroos playmaker Aaron Mooy could do nothing to inspire Huddersfield Town in the Premier League overnight, going down 2-0 to relegation rivals Crystal Palace.

In his second match back from a knee injury, Mooy got through the full 90 minutes for David Wagner’s men at John Smith’s Stadium.

But it was the visitors who were more clinical, with James Tomkins and Luka Milivojevic – from the penalty spot – scoring to hand Palace a vital three points.

Despite being at home, it took the Terriers until the 81st minute to get their first shot on target and they have now gone four straight EPL games without scoring.

"Credit to Crystal Palace; they deserved this win. We were below par, particularly with the ball," Wagner said.

"There is no doubt about our attitude and effort - we fought - but in ball possession, we were not good enough. We were two steps too late today.

"It is important how you manage defeats and a disappointment like today. The good thing is that we know what we have done wrong and what we need to put right."

The defeat means Huddersfield remain in 15th spot on the ladder on 31 points, just three points above the relegation zone.

Wagner’s men next travel to St James’ Park to take on fellow relegation candidates Newcastle United in a fortnight.

Meanwhile, in the FA Cup, Mat Ryan’s Brighton and Hove Albion have been knocked out in the quarter-finals by Manchester United, losing 2-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday morning (AEDT).

Ryan didn’t feature in the match, rested by manager Chris Hughton to concentrate on the club’s Premier League survival quest.

The Seagulls were undone by goals to Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic.

Their focus will now switch to a home match with Leicester City following the international break.
