Mooy returns for Huddersfield against Maclaren's Darmstadt

Caltex Socceroos midfielder Aaron Mooy has made his first appearance for Huddersfield Town in a pre-season friendly against Jamie Maclaren’s Darmstadt98 overnight.

Following his exploits with Australia at the recent FIFA World Cup™, Mooy only returned to training with the Terriers this week for their pre-season tour in Germany.

And the Caltex Socceroos star was given the last 25 minutes by manager David Wagner in a clash that finished 1-1.

Mooy entered the match with his side trailing 1-0, with Huddersfield scoring a late equaliser to snatch a draw.

Fellow substitute Jordan Williams advanced down the left and with his weaker foot crossed to Steve Mounié at the far post who made no mistake heading his side level.

Mooy almost crafted a winning goal for the visitors at the death, with his inch-perfect free-kick from the left finding an unmarked Mounie but his downward header was well saved by the keeper.

The Darmstadt match brings an end to an arduous training camp in Germany, where the Terriers played three matches in five days.

“We come back with a squad where all the players have minutes in their legs and this was the reason, along with testing ourselves against some good opponents,” manager David Wagner told Huddersfield’s official website.

“We have met some good opponents, yes the results haven’t been the best, we are aware of this, but this is pre-season and this happens.”

Fellow Caltex Socceroo Maclaren also started on the bench for his side, coming on for the last 30 minutes.

Maclaren is looking to force his way into the Darmstadt starting XI this season after spending the second part of last season on loan at Scottish club Hibernian.
