Mini Matildas power past Hong Kong

The Mini Matildas are one game away from qualifying for the AFC Under-16 Championships after a crushing 10-0 defeat of Hong Kong.

In their second match competing at a tournament in Malaysia, the Women's U-17's side were never troubled as they seek to finish top of their group.

Ante Juric's team were made to work for their advantage in the early exchanges with multiple corners and shots failing to find the back of the net.

However some solid build up play from Lexi Anastassiou and Chelsie Dawber resulted in the Aussie girls breaking the deadlock just shy of the ten minute mark.

Hannah Bourke added her name to the scoresheet shortly after with a fine header from a corner, ensuring her side went to the break with a 2-0 advanatge.

The second half was a canter for the Mini Matildas as they totally blitzed a disheartened Hong Kong defence.

Ashlee Brodigan was the standout contributor with four goals, while Eliza Ammendolia notched a brace, Joey Cartwright added another and Lexi Anastassiou completed the scoring deep into injury time.

All eyes now turn to the Mini Matildas final and toughest match of the tournament against the Korea Republic, with a place at next year's Asian Championships in China at stake.
