Milos Degenek discovers Europa League group stage opponents

Milos Degenek’s FK Crvena Zvezda learnt their group stage opponents for the upcoming 2020/21 UEFA Europa League campaign following the draw on Friday night (AEST).

Degenek’s FK Crvena Zvezda will feature in group L alongside Belgian side Gent, German heavyweights Hoffenheim and Czech outfit Slovan Liberec.

Zvezda confirmed their place in the UEFA Europa League group stage on Friday morning after they edged out Ararat Armenia 2-1 in Cyprus.

The Serbian champions were originally involved in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers and looked on course to secure their place in the showcase competition for the third consecutive season after they secured a routine 5-0 win against Gilbratan club Europa FC.

However, a shock defeat to Omonia Nicosia on penalties in their third round qualifier saw them knocked down to the Europa League.

They will now be looking for a strong season in Europe to complement what has been a standout start to their domestic campaign which sees them hold a perfect record from their first nine league matches.

Their continental journey will begin on Friday 23 October when they travel to Germany to take on Hoffenheim at 6am.
