Mike Wells

Mike Wells arrived in Australia from London as a 24 year old in 1970 and moved quickly into a playing and coaching career as foundation member of Athelstone Club in Adelaide in 973 and assistant coach of Azzurri in 1974.  

Mike held several State coaching positions before becoming assistant coach to the Australian Under 20 team in 1981.  He was appointed Chairman of the FIFA Technical Committee for the FIFA World Youth Cup, held in Australia, in 1981 and was National Director of Coaching from 1990 to 1995 and a FIFA instructor in Papua New Guinea.

Mike was also head of delegation for various touring sides, was the first Australian to attend and participate at the Brazilian Football Academy in Rio and was also Soccer Australia’s High Performance Manager in 1995.  

He is a Life Member of the South Australian Football Federation and was inducted into South Australia’s Soccer Hall of Fame 2003.
