Midweek Stats Review: Glory end run dating back to Sydney's Del Piero days

Remember when Alessandro Del Piero made the trip to Perth in 2013? Glory fans might, as that had been the last time they beat Sydney FC at home.

Del Piero came off the bench in that game, a 1-0 win for Glory, while Sky Blues midfielder Danny De Silva was a substitute for Perth, who also had Brandon O'Neill in their squad.

But the Hyundai A-League leaders finally got the better of Sydney again with a 3-1 win at HBF Park on Wednesday.

Haunting Sydney was Joel Chianese, who started for the Sky Blues in that game in November 2013.

Perth are flying at the top. Only three teams – Melbourne Victory (31 in 2006/07) and Sydney FC (31 in 2017/18 and 30 in 2016/17) have collected more points than their 29 through 12 games in a season.

We take a look at that and more thanks to Opta data from Round 12, which will be completed when the Central Coast Mariners host Melbourne City next week.

Perth finally end Sydney hoodoo to avoid A-League record

The wait is over.

Glory snapped a nine-game losing streak against the Sky Blues thanks to a 3-1 win.

A Chianese brace and Brendon Santalab's first goal for Perth helped them take control before Adam Le Fondre's 11th of the league campaign for Sydney.

The result saw Perth avoid equalling the Hyundai A-League record for most successive losses to a team, held by Adelaide United – who were beaten 10 straight times by Melbourne Victory from 2008 to 2010.

Adelaide hit milestone mark as Isaias helps end Wednesday wait

Fresh off gaining Australian citizenship, Adelaide United captain Isaias had more reason to celebrate on Wednesday.

Isaias created a game-high five chances in the Reds' 2-0 win over Melbourne Victory at Coopers Stadium.

The midfielder has become a thorn in Victory's side. The only other time this season he managed to create five opportunities was against the Melbourne outfit in Round 7.

Craig Goodwin's opener was Adelaide's 500th Hyundai A-League goal, while Ken Ilso struck their second as they ended a five-game winless run on Wednesdays that dated back to 2011/12.

Victory's nine-match unbeaten run was ended, as was a seven-game undefeated streak in South Australia.

Phoenix equal club record as goals keep flowing against Wanderers

Wellington Phoenix are proving hard to beat under Mark Rudan.

A 3-2 win over the Western Sydney Wanderers saw the Phoenix extend their unbeaten run to a club record-equalling seven.

Roy Krishna's brace helped Wellington to their first win in nine against the Wanderers, whose losing streak at ANZ Stadium was extended to five games.

Brendan Hamill had cancelled out Louis Fenton's opener and Keanu Baccus drew the Wanderers level after Krishna's first as the goals kept flowing in this fixture, with 25 scored in the past five matches between the clubs in Australia.
