Melbourne Victory v Newcastle Jets: match preview

Melbourne Victory and Newcastle Jets need a win to remain in the top-four picture in Sunday's 4.00pm (AEDT) kick off at AAMI Park.

Reigning Premiers Victory returned to the winners circle with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Perth Glory in Round 7 to move within two points of fourth-placed Brisbane Roar.

With Brisbane in action against Melbourne City and fifth-placed Canberra United taking on Sydney FC, Jeff Hopkins' Victory side may sense there is a chance to crack into the top four with three points against Newcastle.

Newcastle will certainly need to improve on their last outings, a 2-0 loss to Sydney and 2-1 defeat to Brisbane in which the Jets conceded 34 shots in both games, in order to avoid their fifth loss of the campaign.
