Signing news: Familiar face returns to Melbourne Victory while defender departs

Melbourne Victory have signed James Donachie on loan from K League 1 club Jeonnam Dragons for the rest of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 Season.

The 25-year-old returns to Victory after two seasons with the club, making 38 appearances and winning the Hyundai A-League 2018 Championship in May.

Head coach Kevin Muscat praised Donachie's abilities and welcomed his presence to the side.

“You don’t need to tell anyone at Melbourne Victory about James’ qualities,” Muscat told Melbourne Victory's website.

“He’s a class act both on and off the park and I’m sure our fans are as excited as I am to welcome him back.

“He’ll add to our defensive stocks and complement the players we’ve brought in across our back four. It’s fantastic to have him at our disposal again.”

Donachie made 11 appearances for Jeonnam Dragons last season, but returns to Victory at a crucial part in their campaign.

Muscat’s side will be battling on two fronts, chasing the Hyundai A-League Premiership and looking to progress to the Round of 16 in the AFC Champions League 2019™.

At the same time, experienced defender Nick Ansell has departed Melbourne Victory as a free agent, joining Jeonnam Dragons following six seasons with Melbourne Victory.
