Melbourne City v Adelaide United: match preview

Melbourne City will play their first match in front of their home fans when they welcome Adelaide United to John McEwan Reserve on Saturday.

City chalked up their first win of the campaign on Sunday, with Emily van Egmond’s last penalty securing a much-deserved 2-1 win over Canberra United.

Van Egmond has scored in both of her first two games for the club and her combination with Westfield Matildas teammates Aivi Luik, Steph Catley and Ellie Carpenter is a real asset to Rado Vidosic’s troops.

The home side will start heavy favourites against an Adelaide United team that are still searching for their first points of 2019/20.

While they have slumped to back-to-back defeats – including a 1-0 loss to champions Sydney FC in Round 2 – the Reds have been terribly unlucky in both their matches.

If they can start to take some of the chances they are creating, they could just pull off a shock in this one.
