McCormack departs Mariners after Villa recall

Ross McCormack will head back to the UK after being recalled by parent club Aston Villa from Central Coast Mariners.

The 32-year old, who also spent time at Melbourne City last season, made five appearances, scoring once, as his time in Gosford was interrupted by injury.

McCormack said the move back to his homeland was for personal reasons, revealing the long distance between himself and his family had proved difficult.

"The opportunity for me to return to the UK is something that I couldn't turn down and will allow me to see my children more, which is something that is very important to me,” McCormack told ccmariners.com.au.

The former Scottish international paid tribute to the Mariners, thanking them for the manner in which he had been welcomed into the club.

"I would like to thank the Central Coast Mariners and the fans for welcoming me on the Central Coast with open arms," he said.

“Although I was only there for a short period, everyone made me feel very welcome from day one.

"I wish the playing group and coaching staff all the best for the rest of the season."
