Goals, saves, a penalty shootout, and quarter final qualification, the final match day of the Women’s League Cup had it all.
The Westfield Matildas played big roles for their clubs, here is a wrap of the action.
Everton 1-0 Liverpool
Everton claimed bragging rights in the Merseyside derby. After a run of less than desirable results in the FA Cup and Women’s Super League, the Toffees were able to change their fortunes.
Izzy Christiansen’s lone goal in the opening five minutes was enough to secure victory. Hayley Raso entered the fray in the 78th minute and almost made an immediate impact. However, her shot was cleared off the line by the Reds’ defence.
Arsenal 2 (5) - 2 (4) Tottenham
It was an exhilarating North London derby with the Gunners ultimately coming away with the win following a penalty shootout!
Lydia Williams made her Arsenal debut and while Caitlin Foord once again played a vital role.
The sides were level with around 20 minutes to play with goals from Vivianne Miedema and Ria Percival respectively. Foord continued her rich vein of form, knocking home what looked like the winner in the 71st minute. Shelina Zadorsky brought things level in the 88th minute.
Going goal for goal in the shootout both Foord and Alanna Kennedy converted for their teams. Alex Morgan missed the final penalty for Spurs.
While Arsenal took the spoils it was not enough for them to progress through to the next stage of the cup.
Charlton 0 - 4 West Ham
West Ham came up big against Charlton and booked their place in the quarter finals of the competition.

Emily van Egmond has been in a purple patch of form and this clash was no exception with the midfielder opening the scoring for the Hammers. Her combination with Rachel Daly saw her score yet another header.
Van Egmond continued to wreak havoc but it was her team mates who found the back of the net, adding another three goals in a comprehensive win.
Mackenzie Arnold was an unused substitute.
Lewes 1 - 3 Bristol City
The Robins booked a spot in the next round of the Women’s League Cup following their 3-1 triumph over Lewes.
A 10-minute period midway through the first half set up the win for Bristol with goals to Jemma Purfield, Emma Bissell and Ebony Salmon.
While Westfield Matilda Chloe Logarzo did not feature her Aussie team mate Ella Mastrantonio was back on the pitch and playing her role.
London City Lionesses v Chelsea
Sam Kerr’s Chelsea weren’t in action after their match against London City Lionesses was postponed. Three positive COVID-19 cases amongst players and staff at London City. Details regarding the match have not yet been announced.
