Matildas Abroad: van Egmond scores, Chelsea keep winning

Two Westfield Matildas are sitting top of the table in their respective leagues while an Emily van Egmond goal helped West Ham to a point. Here’s a look at all the Matildas abroad action.

England 

Fresh off their Conti Cup victory, the Blues earned a 3-0 win over Everton. Hayley Raso played 70 minutes for the Toffees.

Sam Kerr played similar minutes and did her bit in Chelsea’s first two goals. She teed up Fran Kirby for the opener before providing a secondary assist for Pernille Harder. Melanie Leupolz scored the third.

Chelsea remain top of the league and play midweek in their UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter final against Wolfsburg.

Emily van Egmond was back on the scoresheet in West Ham’s 2-2 draw with Birmingham City. Her toe poke goal cancelled out Emily Murphy’s opener.


Her Hammers team mate Katerina Svitkova appeared to have earned the club all three points before a Ruby Mace goal in the 94th minute ensured spoils were shared.

Over the weekend, Arsenal host Manchester United in a huge clash. Caitlin Foord will look to continue her great goal scoring form.

While Monday morning Australian time will see Alanna Kennedy and Tottenham take on Bristol City.

Spain

Aivi Luik and her Sevilla team mates take on Sociedad on Sunday night Australian time. Sitting in eighth and sixth respectively, Sevilla enter the match unbeaten in five.

Netherlands

PSV won 2-1 to defeat Ajax and go top of the table in the Eredivisie Vrouwen. Amy Harrison started once again and played her role in the important win.


The team will have a quick turnaround with a match against Den Haag, who currently sit in fourth, on Sunday.
