Whether it’s the start of the league season like in France and the Netherlands, or the near the end as it is in Sweden, we’re set for another weekend of crucial games.

We could see three Westfield Matildas go head-to-head on Sunday, and three more of our Aussies Abroad were amongst the goals overnight in England.

England

The opening game of FA WSL Matchday 4 sees Alanna Kennedy’s Tottenham Hotspur attempt to earn their first league victory of the season against Manchester United on Saturday at 10:30pm (AEDT). Overnight, Kennedy netted her first goal for the club, scoring from a trademark free kick in a 4-0 League Cup win over London City Lionesses.

Kennedy wasn’t the only Westfield Matilda to get off the mark for her new club. Chloe Logarzo grabbed her first Bristol City goal as they defeated London Bees 4-0 in the League Cup.

On Monday at 12am (AEDT), Bristol City face fellow strugglers Aston Villa, with both sides in search of their first points of the FA WSL campaign.

 

It was a great night for Westfield Matildas to find the back of the net. Caitlin Foord scored for the third game in a row, however Arsenal would lose 4-1 in the League Cup to local rivals Chelsea.

Arsenal will look to keep their place as league leaders on Sunday 10:30pm (AEDT) when they travel to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Hayley Raso’s Everton are the only FA WSL team yet to concede a goal. They’ll seek to maintain their 100% winning record on Sunday 11pm (AEDT) against a West Ham United side featuring Westfield Matildas Emily Van Egmond and Mackenzie Arnold.

Van Egmond played a full game overnight as West Ham recorded a penalty shootout victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in the League Cup.

Finally, on Monday at 12:30am (AEDT) it’s a repeat of the Community Shield as Chelsea host fellow undefeated side Manchester City. Sam Kerr has had a good start to the FA WSL campaign, scoring twice in the opening three games.

France

Emma Checker’s Fleury 91 are currently unbeaten in three games. Their next fixture is away to Bordeaux on Saturday at 11:30pm (AEDT).

Guingamp will try to earn their first points of the 2020-21 campaign at home to Soyaux on Saturday at 11:30pm (AEDT), with Laura Brock looking to extend her run in the starting lineup.

After last weekend’s comeback against Paris FC which was started by Mary Fowler’s equaliser, Montpellier have a huge game away to PSG. Both teams are currently in the top three, kickoff is at 5:45am (AEDT) on Sunday.

Then on Monday at 2am (AEDT), Ellie Carpenter will be aiming to help Olympique Lyonnais keep their spot on top of the league. The Europeans Champions are at home to Dijon.

Netherlands

In the fourth round of the Eredivisie Vrouwen, PSV will look to get back to winning ways when they host PEC Zwolle on Saturday at 4:30am (AEDT).

Kyah Simon and Amy Harrison have certainly made an impression, with both starting the first three games of the season.

Norway

All Norwegian Toppserien teams have this weekend off, however the first round of the Norwegian Cup was played overnight.

Karly Roestbakken came on for the second half of LSK Kvinner’s game against Lyn. LSK progressed to the next round in dramatic fashion, winning 5-3 on penalties after the scores were locked at 1-1.

Clare Polkinghorne and Katrina Gorry are also through to the second round of the Cup after Avaldsnes comfortably defeated second tier side Amazon Grimstad 5-0. There was also personal recognition for Gorry as her goal on the weekend against Kolbotn was nominated for Toppserien Goal of the Week.

Spain

Aivi Luik could be very busy as Sevilla have two games in the space of a few days. First up for them is a Copa de la Reina semi final against Barcelona on Friday at 2am (AEDT), then they’ll back up for the second game of the Primera Iberdrola campaign, at home to Athletic Club on Sunday at 8pm (AEDT).

Real Betis have their first home game of the season on Saturday at 9pm (AEDT) against Santa Teresa, and Jenna McCormick hopes to make her debut for the club after being an unused substitute in Round 1.

Meanwhile, Alex Chidiac and Atletico Madrid are looking to build on opening day success when they host Granadilla Tenerife. Kickoff is at 9:30pm (AEDT) on Saturday.

Sweden

Emily Gielnik has found some great goalscoring form in the Damallsvenskan. The Westfield Matildas forward will be looking to help Vittsjö extend their unbeaten run to nine games when they face Umeå on Saturday at 3am (AEDT).
