Matildas Abroad: Gunners, Spurs progress through to FA Cup quarter finals

Women's FA Cup action saw a few Westfield Matildas progress to the next stage, while the Aussies in the Netherlands made their debut at Philips Stadium.

England

Arsenal has progressed through to the next round of the FA Women’s Cup with a 9-0 victory over Crystal Palace in Joe Montemurro’s final game. Caitlin Foord provided two assists while Steph Catley played 71 minutes. Lydia Williams was on the bench.


Emily van Egmond returned to the starting XI for West Ham, joining her Westfield Matildas team mate Mackenzie Arnold, but their side couldn’t overcome Manchester City. After losing 1-0 in the final round of the FA WSL to City, the Hammers went down 5-1 in this fifth round FA Cup clash.

Alanna Kennedy did not feature but her Tottenham side still got the job done, defeating Sheffield United 2-1 after extra time to progress through to the quarter finals.

Chelsea and Everton will do battle on Friday morning Australian time for a spot in the final eight.

Sweden

Following on from their Svenska Cup final win, Dylan Holmes’ BK Häcken travel to Djurgården in the league.

Netherlands

Making their debut at the Philips Stadium, PSV ran out 6-2 winners over Den Haag. Amy Harrison played 64 minutes while Kyah Simon was fit enough to make the bench but did not get any minutes.

 

Rest of the World 

Aivi Luik’s Sevilla lost 1-0 to Madrid CFF. In Iceland, Emma Checker and her Selfoss side backed up their midweek win with a 3-0 victory over Stjarnan. Selfoss are undefeated so far this season.


Napoli played out a 0-0 draw with Hellas Verona. Alex Huynh played a full match. Chloe Logarzo’s Kansas City started the NWSL season with a scoreless draw against Racing Louisville; Logarzo didn’t feature in the matchday squad.

Fortuna Hjørring lost 2-1 to Brøndby with Indiah-Paige Riley playing 56 minutes.
