Matildas Abroad: Final round of FA WSL action

The final day in England sees both the title race and the relegation battle still live with Westfield Matildas involved in both.

Here's a look ahead to the weekend's action across England and the continent.

England

Sam Kerr was at the double as Chelsea defeated Tottenham 2-0 heading into the final round of the FA WSL season. Two poacher’s goals brought Kerr’s season tally to 20 goals, two ahead of Vivianne Miedema.

The Blues have the chance to wrap up back-to-back league titles when they take on Reading on the last match day. Emma Hayes’ side is two points ahead of Manchester City who face Mackenzie Arnold and Emily van Egmond’s West Ham.


Down the other end of the table, Ella Mastrantonio’s Bristol is looking to avoid relegation when they travel to Brighton. The team sits two points behind Aston Villa who take on Arsenal and its Aussie contingent.  

Everton and Hayley Raso come up against Manchester United while Alanna Kennedy’s Tottenham head to Birmingham

All matches kick off simultaneously at 11:30pm AEST on Sunday night.

Sweden

Emily Gielnik and Clare Polkinghorne and their Vittsjö side go to Kristianstads in round four of Damallsvenskan. Dylan Holmes’ BK Häcken face Linköping.

France

With only a few rounds left in France, Mary Fowler’s Montpellier take on Bordeaux. While Ellie Carpenter’s Lyon will look to stay top of the table when they play Issy FF. Laura Brock and Guingamp battle it out against Stade Reims. 

Rest of the World 

Den Haag host Kyah Simon and Amy Harrison’s PSV.  Aivi Luik’s Sevilla face Deportivo. Emma Checker debuted for Selfoss in the team’s 3-0 win to begin the season. The defender ran out a full game.


Alex Huynh’s Napoli play the table topping Juventus. Chloe Logarzo ran out a half in Kansas City’s 2-1 loss to OL Reign in the Challenge Cup. The NWSL kicks off on May 15 with Kansas City taking on fellow newcomers Racing Louisville.

With three rounds to go Beattie Goad and SV Meppen take on Leverkusen. Round five in the Championship Round in Denmark sees Indiah-Paige Riley and her Fortuna Hjorring side come up against Farum.
