Matildas Abroad: an Aussie derby and a debut

Some leagues are just starting while others are getting closer to crowning a champion. Here's a look at the Westfield Matildas in action abroad.

England 

Two midweek matches saw Westfield Matildas in action. Emily van Egmond and West Ham drew 0-0 with Aston Villa while Sam Kerr's Chelsea drew 2-2 with title rivals Manchester City. The Westfield Matildas' captain scored her 18th goal of the season. 

 

The point keeps the Hammers out of the relegation spot and brings the Blues one step closer to securing the title. 

Over the weekend, Ella Mastrantonio's Bristol travel to Aston Villa in a fight for survival and Alanna Kennedy's Tottenham head up to Manchester to take on United. 


The Aussies at Arsenal welcome Brighton  as the team looks to secure European football next season. The weekend's fixtures conclude with an Australian derby. Mackenzie Arnold and van Egmond take on Everton and Hayley Raso. 

Chelsea is in UEFA Women's Champions League action this weekend, traveling to Germany to face Bayern Munich in the first leg of their semi final. 

France 

Only a handful of matches are taking place over the next two weekends including an Aussie vs Aussie battle. Saturday night Australian time will see Laura Brock and EA Guingamp take on Ellie Carpenter's Lyon. 


OL sit in second on the table and were recently knocked out of the UEFA Women's Champions League. Guingamp, in fourth, will look to add another loss to Lyon's recent results. 

Sweden 

Round two of Damallsvenskan kicks off with plenty of Aussies in action. Dylan Holmes' BK Häcken face Växjö DFF. Elise Kellond-Knight continues her recovery from an ACL; her team Hammarby plays Rosengård.

ROAD TO TOKYO: Westfield Matildas' Group G opponents

Emily Gielnik and Clare Polkinghorne and their Vittsjö GIK side will look to build on their win last weekend, with Gielnik finding the back of the net. 

USA

Chloe Logarzo finally made her move over to America and debuted for Kansas City in the Challenge Cup. She entered the game in the 75th minute, with Kansas drawing 1-1 with the Chicago Red Stars. 

Netherlands 

Amy Harrison and PSV continue the championship play-offs in the Eredivisie Vrouwen. After defeating Ajax in the KNVB Cup semi final, they come up against each other once again, this time in the league. 

Kyah Simon continues her injury recovery. 

Rest of Europe

Aivi Luik's Sevilla take on Rayo Vallecano, while Beattie Goad's SV Meppen host Hoffenheim. The Italian league takes a break this weekend while the Coppa Italia semi finals take place, Indiah-Paige Riley's Fortuna Hjorring take on KoldingQ in matchday four of the Championship Round.
