Matchweek 4 preview: Melbourne City v Western United

Four times Western United have tried, four times Melbourne City have walked away winners – but this newly-emerging Victorian feud will open a new chapter on Saturday.

It was City’s players left celebrating on the Bankwest Stadium pitch at the final whistle on August 26 as the Green and Black’s maiden season ended in Semi-Final heartache following a 2-0 loss.

But Alessandro Diamanti and company are back in 2020/21 aiming to banish the hoodoo that has seen the boys from Bundoora claim victory in all four of their contests against their state rivals.

Patrick Kisnorbo’s side are seeking to bounce back from a 2-0 reverse against Adelaide United last time out and City will be without suspended defender Scott Jamieson after his red card against the Reds.

Mark Rudan’s outfit are running out for only their second match of the campaign after they raised the curtain on the new season with a goalless draw, also against their South Australian rivals.
