Match preview: Perth Glory v Melbourne Victory

Round 14 clashes don’t get much bigger than this as Perth Glory host Melbourne Victory in a Westfield W-League winner-takes-all encounter.

On the surface, the game may appear to be fourth hosting first, but a deeper glance suggests this clash may just decide the title race.

Perth are a mere one point behind Melbourne, knowing a win would put them ahead of Jeff Hopkins’ side, and potentially in a Premiership-winning position - depending on other results.

Friday night’s game in Perth is also the clash of the Westfield W-League Golden Boot contenders.

Sam Kerr recently broke the all-time league record with a brace in Perth's 5-1 win over Western Sydney Wanderers, taking her tally to 12 goals for the season.

Natasha Dowie is her nearest competitor on nine goals, three behind Kerr.

While it may seem unlikely Dowie can bridge the gap between herself and Kerr, it isn’t certainly isn't impossible. The Englishwoman grabbed a hat-trick when Melbourne Victory travelled to Sydney FC on November 28 in their 3-2 win over the Sky Blues.

Closer to home, Dowie grabbed a brace the last time these two sides met back in Round 9, steering her side to a crucial 2-1 win over Glory.

The win hauled Melbourne Victory back to the summit of the Westfield W-League, where they have remained ever since.
