Match preview: Newcastle Jets v Brisbane Roar

Newcastle Jets host Brisbane Roar on Wednesday night reeling from their late 2-1 loss to Adelaide United in their final fixture of 2018 in the Hyundai A-League.

The Jets restored parity against the Reds thanks to a Roy O’Donovan header, before Craig Goodwin converted an injury-time penalty to steal all three points at McDonald Jones Stadium.

The Roar, meanwhile, have some regrouping to do of their own, not least because former head coach John Aloisi resigned on Friday morning. 

Darren Davies began his tenure as interim coach with a 2-1 loss to Sydney FC, though his side’s performance showed grit and promise that had perhaps been seldom evident in weeks gone by. 

Adam Taggart has been one of Brisbane’s bright sparks, registering 27 shots in 10 games, hitting 14 of those on target and bagging six goals along the way. 

These two sides met back in Round 7, where Newcastle took all three points at home in a 2-0 victory. 

Goals to Kaine Sheppard and Jair did the job on that occasion — will history repeat itself come Sunday?
