Match preview: Argentina v New Zealand

With neither of these two teams getting the chocolates on Matchday One, it will be a desperate affair at Suncorp Stadium as Argentina and New Zealand attempt to stay in race for the Cup of Nations.

Argentina showed some good signs in the first half against Korea Republic at Leichhardt Oval but trailed off after the break, conceding four goals in a 5-0 defeat.

Head coach Carlos Borrello spoke of his team’s need to focus throughout the full 90 minutes as they prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup so expect a more defensive display from the South Americans.

The Football Ferns meanwhile will have been encouraged by their display against the Westfield Matildas despite doing down 2-0.

New Zealand looked dangerous on a couple of occasions and if not for some poor finishing the match could have had a very different outcome.

Coach Tom Sermanni pointed out the lack of match fitness for some of his charges and they will be better for the run as they head to Brisbane.
