Signing news: Marrone signs one-year extension with the Reds

Adelaide United club stalwart Michael Marrone has signed a one-year extension with the Reds which ties him to the club until the end of the 2020/21 Hyundai A-League season.

Marrone has made 183 appearances (150 in the Hyundai A-League) for the club over two separate spells, making him the second-most capped Reds player of all time.

The 32-year-old defender has enjoyed a decorated career in Adelaide, winning the FFA Cup three times since 2014, to go along with the Hyundai A-League Premiership/Championship double he and the Reds earned in the 2015/16 season.

Upon signing his one-year contract extension, Marrone says he sees the club moving in the right direction and can't wait to be part of the journey for another year.

“I couldn’t be happier to be extending my time with Adelaide United," Marrone said in a club statement.

“I’ve been at the club for many years now and it’s still a privilege to represent my home town team.

“Obviously we’re going through a bit of a tough spell at the moment but the Club is moving in the right direction and it’s exciting to be part of.”

Adelaide United Director of Football Bruce Djite says Marrone's adaptability and professionalism standout as key facets of his game, and he is happy to see Marrone extending his stay at the Reds.

“We’re very happy to have Michael on board for a further season,” Djite said.

“Michael is the ultimate professional and is a valuable asset to the team and the Club and provides additional experience to the squad.

“His ability to fill a number of defensive roles, particularly featuring as a centre-back of late, just highlights his undeniable adaptability and quality.

“Michael’s ability to remain fit and always step into the team whenever he’s called upon is a fantastic attribute.”
