Mariners support program to get children with autism playing football

The Central Coast Mariners are partnering with a local charity to launch a football skills program aimed at engaging children with autism.

Autism Central Coast are kicking off ‘Spectrum Soccer’, a skills and fun program for those who love football but do not get the opportunity to experience it in a casual learning environment.

With the support of Soccer 5s and Mariners, the charity is running a free program starting on Wednesday March 4 at Soccer 5s in Tuggerah.

The charity staged a successful soccer carnival a few years back and the ACC's Jayden Robins said: “It's like anything in life. If you enjoy it, you should be able to do it, and Soccer 5s agreed with us and offered the facility.”

Robins added: “We are also talking to the Mariners about a sensory room at the stadium on match days.

“It’s a great chance for our clients to enjoy football in a more comfortable environment, and to educate the greater public about the needs of those living on the spectrum.”

Those interested in participating, should phone Autism Central Coast on 0410918100.
