Mariners parts ways with young attacker Macdonald

On the eve of the final F3 Derby of the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 Season, Central Coast Mariners have parted ways with youngster Josh Macdonald.

The Gosford club confirmed the news on Friday, with Macdonald’s contract terminated by mutual consent.

Macdonald was signed by former boss Mike Mulvey at the start of the current campaign after he impressed in a short trial period with the club.

But the 23-year-old managed just two appearances this season.

“I would just like to say thank you to the club for giving me the opportunity,” Macdonald said in a statement released by the Mariners.

“It’s a shame it’s come to an end like this.

“To the fans - keep supporting the boys because each and every day they are putting in their all. You have all been great since I arrived at the club and I’m sure you’ll continue to get behind them for the remainder of the season.

“I just want to wish the boys all the best for the rest of the season, it’s been a pleasure.”

Macdonald, who has also played for Western Sydney Wanderers in the Hyundai A-League, joined the Mariners after a couple of prolific seasons with Wollongong Wolves in the NSW NPL.

The Mariners will be looking to respond from last week's 8-2 thrashing at the hands of Wellington Phoenix when they make the short trip up the M1 for Saturday afternoon’s F3 Derby against the Newcastle Jets.

The match - which will be interim boss Alen Stajcic’s first game in charge – at McDonald Jones kicks off at 5.35pm (AEDT) on FOX SPORTS 505, while you also stream it live on the MyFootball Live App  or by subscribing to Kayo Sports.
