Following the departure of England's Lucy Bronze, Carpenter has claimed the right back position and her firsr 90 minutes for the UWCL champions showed Lyon fans why she was targeted as a replacement for Bronze.

"During the second half, where she [Carpenter] had more momentum, and showed us what she was able to do," Vasseur said on Lyon's website.

"This is the reason we have her today and we are delighted."

Carpenter was industrious in her first match against Paris FC and her usual attacking runs caused issues, particuarly in the second half.  One such bustling run saw the right back bundled over and earning a penalty.

It was't just Vasseur who was impressed, one of the commentator's remarked that the 20 year old could be a a future bright spot on the right side in Europe with the second commentator exclaiming "Well done!".

Lyon will take on Stade de Reims in their second match of the season.
