Caltex Socceroos stars set to descend on Canberra for Nepal clash

Australia's biggest stars are set to light up the nation's capital against Nepal in October, says Matt McKay.

The Caltex Socceroos are set to host the South Asian nation in their first home match on the road to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ on Thursday, 10 October 2019, kick off 7:30pm AEST.

It is the first time Australia have played in Canberra since a 3-0 win over Kyrgyz Republic in November 2015. Secure your seat at GIO Stadium.

And McKay - who was part of that squad nearly four years ago - can't wait for the likes of Aaron Mooy, Maty Ryan and hometown hero Tom Rogic to return Down Under and make a statement of intent.

“Knowing Arnie, I think he’ll select the best team every single game. The full squad will be out there, we need a result, we need to make a statement throughout this first phase of qualifying,” McKay said.

He added: “The squad overall love coming to Canberra. I’m sure the players that come out here will do us proud.”

Meanwhile, FFA Head of National Performance Luke Casserly said that the fixture will serve as an important building block for the road to Qatar.

“To qualify for Russia, we ended up playing 22 qualification matches – more than anyone has ever played,” he said.

“Our home games become incredibly important, and the support of the ACT government to have use down here is very important.”
