Reza, Devlin see off Adelaide as Sydney FC keep pressure on Perth

Reza Ghoochannejhad and Cameron Devlin scored their maiden Hyundai A-League goals to keep Sydney FC in sight of top spot with a 2-0 win over Adelaide United on Friday night.

The experienced Ghoochannejhad, a big-name January loan signing from Cypriot club APOEL, capped off a tidy team move in the 15th minute before youngster Devlin stepped off the bench to ice an assured victory in stoppage time.

Steve Corica's side are now back to within five points of Perth Glory, who visit Melbourne City on Sunday, while Adelaide's troubling winless streak stands at four matches.

Injuries forced Marco Kurz to field Michael Marrone alongside Isaias - making his 150th Hyundai A-League appearance - in the heart of defence and the makeshift pairing came undone in the early stages.

Ghoochannejhad started and coolly finished a well-constructed move that included one-touch contributions from Rhyan Grant, Anthony Caceres and Adam Le Fondre.

Beaten through his legs for the opener, Paul Izzo next tipped over a cute Milos Ninkovic lob and got one back on Ghoochannejhad by turning the forward's stinging shot against the base of the right post.

Adelaide eventually found a foothold and might have been level when George Blackwood broke into the box and lifted a deft finish over Andrew Redymayne, but Alex Wilkinson raced back to nod it off the line.

Former Sydney FC striker Blackwood remained a threat after the restart, firing one effort into the side-netting soon just before the hour.

Kurz's men generally enjoyed the better of possession and territory over the final 30 minutes but were caught on the counter in the fourth minute of added time, Brandon O'Neill breaking from midfield and feeding substitute Devlin for the sealer.

Adelaide have now failed to beat the Sky Blues in nine straight Hyundai A-League meetings and are at risk of sliding back to sixth by the conclusion of Round 21.
