Le Fondre, De Silva inflict Perth Glory's first loss in big Sydney FC statement

Daniel De Silva helped Sydney FC prove they're still a Hyundai A-League force as they ruined Perth Glory's unbeaten record with a 2-1 victory at nib Stadium.

Adam Le Fondre's instinctive first-half finish stunned the expectant home fans before former Glory man De Silva struck late to extend the Sky Blues' incredible winning streak in this fixture to nine matches.

Chris Ikonomidis set up a grandstand finale by pulling a goal back in the 90th minute, but Steve Corica's side clung on to move back within three points of the league leaders.

The visitors arrived on the back of a confidence-boosting Sydney Derby victory and their belief lifted further in the 18th minute, English import Le Fondre alive to a loose ball in the box following Brandon O'Neill's corner.

Andrew Redmayne spread himself well to prevent Andy Keogh from equalising on the volley and Liam Reddy was similarly sharp with a reaction save from Alex Brosque's header in first-half stoppage time.

Ikonomidis looked Glory's likeliest avenue to goal but Rhyan Grant, celebrating the 10-year anniversary of his Sydney FC debut, was impressive in containing his Caltex Socceroos team-mate.

Milos Ninkovic might have doubled the margin when he blazed wide from Alex Brosque's cut-back to the edge of the area.

That miss soon mattered little, though, as De Silva stepped off the bench to tuck away what proved the winner in the 87th minute.

The Premiers were made to endure a nervy ending after Ikonimidis bundled in Dino Djulbic's header from a 90th-minute corner, but a subsequent strike from substitute Brendon Santalab was ruled out for Joel Chianese's infringement on Redmayne and Perth's undefeated start came to a conclusion.
