The final double-header of the regular season proved a tough one for two of the Hyundai A-League's fiercest rivals.

Sydney FC stumbled to a disappointing defeat in their last domestic fixture prior to the Finals Series as a clinical Newcastle Jets prevailed 2-0 at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Ben Kantarovski and Dimitri Petratos were the scorers for Ernie Merrick's men, who signed off in style in front of their own fans.

Western Sydney were unable to provide the same fireworks for their supporters, losing 1-0 to Melbourne Victory at ANZ Stadium.

Ola Toivonen's thumping header was a worthy winner on a night which saw retiring Wanderers great Mark Bridge bid farewell to professional football.
