Leckie’s Hertha beaten on Bundesliga return

The return from the Bundesliga’s winter break has been a disappointing one for Caltex Socceroos winger Mathew Leckie.

The Aussie winger played the full 90 minutes for Hertha Berlin but they went down 1-0 at Vfb Stuttgart.

An even contest was decided 12 minutes from the end at the Mercedes Benz Arena.

Hertha defender Niklas Stark was the unfortunate scorer of an own goal as his attempted clearance looped over keeper Rune Jarstein and into the net.

Despite piling on the pressure in the last 10 minutes, Leckie and Hertha were unable to find an equaliser.

The defeat has seen the Berlin side fall to 11th on the ladder, one spot ahead of Stuttgart.

Hertha will need to pick themselves up quickly as they next host powerhouses Borussia Dortmund in the league next Saturday (AEDT).
