Le Fondre at the double as Sky Blues ground Jets

Adam Le Fondre is finding his scoring boots ahead of the Hyundai A-League 2018-19 season.

The English marksman, who struck 12 goals in Reading’s 2012-13 Premier League season, showed his eye for goals by scoring a double in Sydney FC’s 2-1 win against Newcastle Jets.

Linking up with fellow new Sky Blues signing Siem de Jong in Steve Corica’s attack, the 31-year-old wasted no time in finding the net at Leichhardt Oval.

After collecting Andrew Redmayne’s goal-kick, Le Fondre did the rest himself, breaking forward and curling in a 12th minute opener.

Ernie Merrick’s Jets forced their way back into the game on the half hour, when Angus Thurgate slammed in from close-range after Daniel Georgievski’s cut back, but Le Fondre restored the Sky Blues’ lead after the break.

After being hauled down in the penalty area, Le Fondre picked himself up and converted from the spot for 2-1, and he saw a headed effort fly wide as the chance for a hat-trick eluded him.

Le Fondre also scored in Sydney FC's 3-0 win over India Under 23s in August, making it three goals in two in pre-season for the man tasked to fill the boots of the Hyundai A-League 2017-18 top scorer Bobo.
