Qantas Socceroo Harry Kewell has stepped up his desperate search for a club by arriving unannounced at Stoke City training for a brief chat with manager Tony Pulis.

The Premier League club releases a statement saying Kewell "turned up out of the blue, wasn't expected by anyone, had a five minute conversation with our manager and left".

The result of the chat remains unknown but it does show Kewell is increasingly desperate to get back on the pitch.

The former Leeds, Liverpool and Galatasary star has been on the lookout for a new club since leaving the Melbourne Victory and returning to the UK in late June to be with his wife, Sheree Murphy, whose mother is in poor health.

Recently voted Australia's greatest ever footballer, Kewell has been linked with several English clubs including Blackburn, Middlesbrough and Swindon Town.
