Kerr and Chelsea to battle for Women's Community Shield

Sam Kerr and Chelsea WFC have the chance to add another trophy to their cabinet following the announcement that the Women's Community Shield will be held for the first time in 12 years.

FA Women's Super League holders Chelsea will meet FA Cup winners Manchester City on Saturday, 29 August at Wembley Stadium.

The match up also sees the two top teams at the end of the COVID suspended season go head to head.

The pre-mature ending of the season saw Chelsea named 2019-20 WSL champions on a points-per-game basis, having been one point behind leaders Manchester City but with a game in hand.

In the first Women's Community Shield since 2008, the match will precede the men's fixture with Liverpool FC taking on Arsenal FC.

It will also be the first match of the 2020/21 women's football domestic calendar with the new WSL season scheduled to commence, behind closed doors, on the weekend of 5-6 September.

Chelsea will begin their title defence away at Manchester United.
