Junior Matildas trounce Hong Kong in qualifiers

The Junior Matildas have racked up the goals again at the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers in Vietnam, with a big win over Hong Kong.

Australia’s U-17 team cruised to a comfortable 14-0 win in Hanoi, backing up their 28-0 triumph over Palestine on Thursday.

It took just three minutes for the young Aussies to take the lead, with Julia Vignes at the back post to score her first goal in the Green and Gold.

From there the Junior Matildas were in complete control, adding another six goals before the break

India Kubin finished with four goals for the match, with Jacynta Galabadaarachchi notching a hat-trick while Vignes (two), Amy Sayer (two), Lucy Kell, Laura Hughes and Jess Meads getting the other goals.

Ante Juric’s side again showed excellent composure and ability in the steamy conditions and look in ominous form for the rest of the qualifiers.

The Junior Matildas still have matches against Iraq, Vietnam and Uzbekistan to come.

The Australians will need to top their Group D in order to join DPR Korea, Japan, Thailand and China at the 2017 Championships.
