John Thomson

Wee Johnny’ was born in Scotland and came to Australia in 1947 at age 25, where he  played for Gladesville Ryde and Canterbury Bankstown in the NSW State League.  .

John made the career change to administration where he became Chairman of the National Soccer League (NSL) Co-ordination Committee.  John was also treasurer and an executive member of the NSW Federation. 

He was manager of the national team which played in the first Oceania tournament in New Caledonia, managed many NSW overseas touring teams and acted as liaison officer for visiting overseas teams.  John was involved in negotiations for Australia’s re-admission to FIFA and represented Australia at Oceania Football Confederation meetings.

John has given more than 60 years of service to football in many capacities and is a Life Member of the Australian and NSW federations.
