Jets boss Robinson in frame for vacant Wanderers job

Newcastle Jets have granted head coach Carl Robinson permission to speak with Western Sydney Wanderers to potentially take over as the new boss of the Red and Blacks.

In a huge bombshell on Wednesday, the Jets put out a statement confirming the Wanderers have made an official approach to Robinson.

“The club has granted permission for the two parties to enter discussions,” the Jets’ statement read.

Robinson has rocketed into favouritism to take over the Wanderers coaching post following the shock sacking of Jean-Paul de Marigny on Monday.

The Welshman is currently contracted to the Hunter club until the end of the 2022/23 Season.

He did an excellent job at the Jets after taking over midway through last season from Ernie Merrick.

The Jets were languishing near the foot of the A-League ladder when Robinson took the reins, eventually finishing just three points outside the top six and as one of the form teams of the competition.

The 44-year-old mentor has previously spent five years in charge of MLS outfit Vancouver Whitecaps, twice reaching the MLS quarter finals and qualifying for the CONCACAF Champions League.
